Terrorist attack on two journalists in Bogra
Two journalists were attacked by terrorists in the Jaleswaritala area of Bogra city. Another person was attacked at the time.
The attack took place in front of a juice bar at the Jaleswaritala area of Bogra city at around 3:30 pm on Sunday.
The two injured journalists are Khorshed Alam, Uttaranchal correspondent of The Business Standard newspaper and Bogra correspondent of Maasranga Television, and Asafudaula Neon, staff correspondent of the online portal Bogra Live, and a young man named Taufiqul Islam who was with them. Three others, including the two injured journalists, have been treated at the Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra. The injured journalists have injuries to their heads, eyes and hands.
Journalist Khorshed Alam, who was attacked, said, “They went to drink juice at around 3 pm. As soon as they came out after drinking juice, a group of teenage thugs suddenly came and surrounded journalist Neon. When they tried to talk to the youths, they started beating them. They punched them in the head. Then, when they were about to stab me, Neon tried to save me. At that time, the terrorists also threw him on the road and started beating him. Journalist Neon said, ‘I don’t know the attackers. However, one of them is known to me. They were probably following us in advance. When I was leaving the juice bar, some people surrounded me and asked my name and address. When I introduced myself and went out, they attacked me from behind. They kept punching me in the head and eyes. When I was hit in the right eye, I went to the hospital but there was no treatment. Khorshed Alam and Nirab were injured while trying to protect me. The reason why they killed us is still not clear.’
Bogra Superintendent of Police Zedan Al Musa told reporters that the matter is being viewed with the utmost seriousness. An additional Superintendent of Police visited the scene. Multiple police teams are working to arrest the attackers. Those involved in this attack will be brought to justice soon.
