Bangladesh strongly protests The interim government has expressed deep concern and outrage over recent comments by US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard on Bangladesh. In a statement, the government called Gabbard’s remarks “misleading, harmful and baseless”. In an interview with Indian television channel NDTV World, Gabbard made comments about “torture and killings” of religious minorities in Bangladesh and the “Islamic terrorist threat”. She also accused the country of “establishing an Islamic caliphate”.
The government statement said that Bangladesh is a traditionally tolerant and peace-loving country and has made significant progress against extremism and terrorism. Gabbard’s comments are not based on any evidence and unfairly stigmatize an entire nation.
The statement also said that Bangladesh, like other countries in the world, is facing extremism, but is continuing to work with the international community, especially the United States, to improve law and order, promote social reform and counter-terrorism.
