Bangladesh Trade Union Federation demands payment of outstanding wages and Eid bonus to workers
The government gave Tk 1.5 lakh crore to factory owners as incentives during the Corona pandemic, but the workers did not get it. The Bangladesh Trade Union Federation (TUF) has demanded to know where and how the money of this incentive was spent. They have demanded immediate payment of the workers’ arrears of wages, current month’s wages and Eid bonus. TUF President Faizul Hakim and General Secretary Amir Abbas made this demand in a statement on Thursday. The statement called on the interim government to take an account of the incentive money to stop the trick of keeping fair dues including wages of workers. The statement said that just as the owners have kept the wages of the workers in arrears, they have also kept the money for bank loans and gas and electricity bills in arrears. In addition, the demands were made to issue employment letters to every worker in the factories, determine wages in line with the market rate, and pay the wages due to the workers at the end of the week. The government gave Tk 1.5 lakh crore to factory owners as incentives during the Corona pandemic, but the workers did not get it.
