Fakhrul: Reforms and election process
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that there is no room for debate on which comes first and which comes later. Reforms and elections can go hand in hand. Reforms are an ongoing process. He said this at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Saturday (March 22).
Mirza Fakhrul said that a reform charter can be prepared based on the consensus of the political parties, which will be implemented by the elected government. The task of the interim government is to complete the necessary reforms for fair, free and acceptable elections, organize elections quickly and hand over power to the elected government.
He alleged that some advisors to the interim government are involved in forming political parties while in power, which has created doubts in the public mind. The administration is being used for this.
He also said that the recommendations of the Constitutional and Electoral Reforms Commission indicate that politicians should be excluded and unelected people should be given a chance to run the country.
He also commented that it is urgent to reform and formulate a constitution by giving importance to the democratic tradition, culture and religious sentiment of the people. He believes that establishing a non-discriminatory state and society to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs of the anti-fascist movement and the July uprising is the priority of the present time.
Mirza Fakhrul also said that BNP’s opinion on the reform proposal of the Consensus Commission will be submitted tomorrow.
