Gas cylinder explosion in moving auto-rickshaw, 6 burnt including women and children

A gas cylinder explosion in a moving CNG-powered autorickshaw has occurred in Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali. Six people, including women and children, were burnt. The explosion occurred at around 5 pm today, Wednesday, in the Contractor Mosque area of ​​Chaumuhani Municipality.

The burnt people are Selina Begum (32), her son Md. Shahriar (12), daughters Hridi (14), Hridika (14 months), sister’s daughter Lamia (14) and sister’s son (6). After the incident, they were rescued with the help of local people and five of them were admitted to the 250-bed General Hospital in Noakhali. Another person was given first aid. Tahidur Rahman, brother-in-law of burnt Selina Begum, told Prothom Alo that at around 5 pm today, his sister-in-law was going to her sister’s house in the Contractor Mosque area from her house in Chaprashir, Ward No. 2 of Chaumuhani Municipality, in a CNG-powered autorickshaw. When their autorickshaw reached the west of the Contractor Mosque, the gas cylinder of the autorickshaw suddenly exploded.

Rajib Ahmed, Resident Medical Officer of the General Hospital, told Prothom Alo that five people, including a woman and a child, who were burned in the gas cylinder explosion, were admitted to the hospital. After admission, they were given the necessary treatment. 5-7 percent of their bodies were burned. All are out of danger.

Liton Dewan, Officer-in-Charge of Begumganj Police Station, told Prothom Alo that the police visited the scene after receiving information about the incident. Five people who were burned in the cylinder explosion were admitted to the hospital. However, no one has filed a written complaint with the police station regarding the incident.
