Government doubles license fees for all types of firearms

The government has doubled the license fee for all types of firearms. This information has been given in the Firearms License Issuance, Renewal and Use Policy-2025 Rules. The new policy was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on July 10.

According to the 2016 rules, a person was required to pay at least three lakh taka in income tax to get a license for a pistol or revolver. Currently, it has been increased to five lakh taka. At the individual level, the license fee for pistols and revolvers was 30 thousand taka. It has been increased to 60 thousand taka. The fee for guns and shotguns was 20 thousand taka. It has been increased to 40 thousand taka. The renewal fee for pistols or revolvers was 10 thousand. It has been increased to 20 thousand taka. The fee for guns, shotguns and rifles was 5 thousand taka. It has been increased to 10 thousand taka. At the financial institution or bank level, it was 20 thousand taka. It has been increased to 50 thousand taka for long barrels. The license renewal fee for long barrels was 5 thousand taka. It has been increased to 10 thousand taka. The long barrel issue fee was 20 thousand taka, it has been increased to 40 thousand taka. At the institution level, the long barrel of guns, rifles and shotguns has been increased from 5 thousand taka to 10 thousand taka. The license renewal fee for dealers and repairers was 5 thousand taka. It has been increased to 10 thousand taka.

After the current government came to power, all types of firearms licenses at the individual level were canceled from 2009 to August 4, 2024. Later, instructions were given to submit those weapons and ammunition to the office of the Deputy Commissioner. Since then, new weapons licenses have been stopped at the individual level. However, some army and institutional licenses have already been issued.
