Mumbai Indians coach joins Bangladesh team
Bangladesh Cricket Team has a new fielding coach. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed James Payment as the national team’s fielding coach until the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November. The 56-year-old coach was born in England but is settled in New Zealand. The BCB announced his appointment in a press release today.
Expressing his feelings after being appointed, Payment said, “I am really excited to have the opportunity to join the talented Bangladesh team. I am eagerly waiting to join the team’s players and coaching staff.” He is scheduled to join the Bangladesh team ahead of the upcoming two-Test series against Zimbabwe.
Payment last worked as an assistant coach for Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians. After joining the franchise in 2018, he worked on the team’s fielding and running between the wickets. Payment served as the head coach of New Zealand’s Northern District Cricket Association for five years. He has worked with the New Zealand Cricket Board at various times as a fielding resource coach and special technical advisor. He was with the New Zealand national team, the ‘A’ team and the Under-19 team. He was also the interim coach of the United States cricket team for a few days. Sean McDermott took over as Bangladesh’s fielding coach in 2022. After he left the post, the fielding coach’s responsibility was given to Nick Pothas, who was previously the assistant coach. He also severed ties with the BCB a few months ago.
