Negotiations with countries that have requested it soon: Trump

US President Donald Trump has said he will soon start negotiations with countries that have already contacted the White House requesting a reduction in tariffs. At the same time, he threatened to impose another 50 percent tariff on China if it does not withdraw the new tariff announcement it has announced.

Trump said these things in a post on his own social media platform Truth Social on Monday. The White House has also confirmed the matter to AFP. Trump imposed retaliatory tariffs on products from various countries on April 2. A 34 percent tariff was imposed on China. Earlier, a 20 percent tariff was imposed on the country. In response, China announced a 34 percent tariff on US products last Friday. Now if Trump imposes another 50 percent tariff, the total tariff on Chinese products will stand at 104 percent.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that if China does not withdraw the 34 percent tariff imposed on the United States, an additional 50 percent tariff will be imposed on the country from April 9. If Beijing does not agree to his demands, all planned talks with China will be canceled. Trump wrote that if any country retaliates against the US tariffs, he will quickly impose new and significant tariffs on top of the initial tariffs imposed on them. Even so, China has imposed tariffs on the United States.

The US president also wrote that all meetings that were planned at the request of China will be canceled. And talks will begin soon with other countries that have requested meetings with the United States.
