One injured in shooting while checking arms sales, police recover shotgun and two pistols
Police have recovered two foreign pistols and a shotgun during a raid on a house in Bangalbari area of Khulna city. Seven shotgun bullets, eight pistol bullets and a ramda were also found during the raid. Police have arrested two people on charges of illegal possession and sale of weapons.
The word ‘BD Police’ is written on the shotgun and shotgun bullets. Police claim that the recovered shotgun is one of the weapons looted by the police. However, it is not known when and from where the weapon was looted. The two arrested in this incident are Faruk Hossain and Khairul Sardar. The weapons and bullets were recovered from Faruk Hossain’s house. And Khairul Sardar was shot in the hand while testing the weapon while trying to buy it. He was arrested while undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital. Police said that the weapons were recovered during a raid on Faruk Hossain’s house based on Khairul’s confession.
This information was given at a press briefing at the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) headquarters on Thursday afternoon. In the briefing, KMP Additional Police Commissioner (Admin and Finance) Abu Raihan Md. Saleh said, on Wednesday night, the police came to know that a shootout took place between two groups of terrorists on Bangalbari Road under Harintana police station. One person was injured in the incident. Harintana and Aranghata police stations conducted an extensive investigation in this regard and identified Khairul Sardar (27), who was undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital. After questioning him, it was learned that while he was buying a weapon in Bangalbari area under Harintana police station, a pistol bullet inadvertently fired and hit his left palm.
The briefing said that after that, Harintana police and detective police conducted a drive in Bangalbari area today, Thursday, with Khairul Sardar. When Khairul, who was shot, showed the house of arms dealer Faruk Hossain (23), the police searched the house. At that time, Faruk was arrested. During interrogation, Faruk admitted to having weapons. At one stage, based on his information, two foreign pistols were recovered from the pile of firewood in the kitchen, a shotgun and seven shotgun bullets kept in a tin box in the house, eight pistol bullets and a ramda from the wall inside the house. Additional Commissioner Abu Raihan Md. Saleh said that no one except the police headquarters can say under which police station or with whom the weapon was. For this reason, a letter has been written to the headquarters informing about the weapons. During the initial interrogation, Faruk Hossain admitted that he bought and sold illegal weapons from various terrorists, extortionists and miscreants. A case is under process against them. Operations are underway to arrest the terrorists’ associates and recover more weapons.
