Orders to arrest those involved in attacks on businesses in Sylhet and other places
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has ordered police officers to arrest those involved in the vandalism of shops and businesses in various cities of the country, including Sylhet. This was announced on the chief advisor’s verified Facebook page on Monday.
The IGP said in the directive, “We have video footage of the attackers. They are being identified, they will be arrested immediately. Bangladesh Police is now working on it.” Stating that the government does not prevent any justified protests, the IGP further said in the directive, “However, no criminal activities will be tolerated under the guise of protest programs.”
Meanwhile, the attack on businesses on the opening day of the four-day investment conference has “set a shameful precedent,” said Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury.
The BIDA Executive Chairman said, “When we are organizing the summit to positively portray Bangladesh for investment, such a shameful precedent is very unfortunate for us. Many of these businesses are local investors, some are foreign investors who had faith in Bangladesh. They all provided employment opportunities for our youth.’
Ashiq Chowdhury said, ‘Those who carried out this heinous vandalism are against employment, economic growth and stability of the country.’Orders to arrest those
