Out of 800000 180000 Rohingya are eligible to return: Myanmar
The country’s junta government has said that 180,000 Rohingyas out of the 800,000 listed in Cox’s Bazar are eligible to return to Myanmar. Another 70,000 Rohingyas are in the final screening stage.
Deputy Prime Minister U Than Shwe of the Myanmar junta government told Khalilur Rahman, the special representative of the Bangladesh Chief Advisor on the Rohingya issue. They met on Friday on the sidelines of the ongoing BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok, Thailand.
This information was given in a post on the Chief Advisor’s Facebook page. Bangladesh provided a list of Rohingyas to Myanmar in six phases from 2018-2020. Out of the 800,000 Rohingyas on that list, Myanmar has identified 180,000 Rohingyas as eligible to return. In addition, the names and photos of 70,000 Rohingyas are being further examined in the final screening stage.
