Palestinian journalist Alaa Asad Hashim, seriously injured in an Israeli airstrike, died on Saturday (March 15) after being in a coma for a long time. The Palestinian media rights organization ‘Forum of Palestinian Journalists’ confirmed this information. Hashim had been in a coma for several months. With his death, the number of journalists killed in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict has reached 206. The Forum of Palestinian Journalists has called for ensuring the safety of journalists in accordance with international law and human rights agreements.
Journalists are facing extreme risks while covering the war situation in Gaza. They are exposing the atrocities of the war to the world despite Israeli airstrikes and ground operations, as well as communication blackouts, food and medicine shortages, and power outages.
It is worth noting that Israel has been attacking Gaza in response to Hamas’s ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’ since October 7, 2023. So far, more than 48,524 Palestinians have been killed in this war, most of whom are women and children. More than 111,955 people have been injured.
