PTI to protest outside Adiala Jail demanding Imran’s release

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan is incarcerated in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The PTI has announced a three-day protest outside the jail during Eid as the government has not given any concessions on his release.

Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and head of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter Junaid Akbar said in a television interview that party workers will protest outside Adiala Jail on all three days of Eid-ul-Fitr. He also said that if the government wants to hold talks with the main opposition party, then the government should take the first step and show its seriousness in the talks. Junaid Akbar said, “Not everything is ideal in the opposition alliance, but efforts are being made to strengthen the alliance. The Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP) parties are supporting us. Now we are trying to get the support of political forces that are not part of the parliament. We have also contacted the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership and I am hopeful that the situation will improve.’

Regarding the formation of the alliance, the PTI leader also said that there are some differences between the parties. However, such minor obstacles will not affect the alliance.

Junaid Akbar said, ‘After Eid-ul-Fitr, we will protest in Islamabad. But before that, during Eid, a protest will start outside the Adiala Jail.’

PTI is trying to get a concession for the party’s founding chairman. Especially after the Zafar Express incident, attempts were made to include Imran in the meeting of the parliamentary committee on national security briefed by the armed forces. But PTI failed to get Imran Khan released from prison. The party leaders tried to meet Imran Khan; but the government did not allow that either. Earlier, PTI’s talks with the government had also stopped. In this situation, the PTI is starting to take the path of putting pressure on the government through agitation again.
