Thanking Trump for his efforts, Putin said the idea was sound and Russia supported it. However, some issues needed further discussion. Putin also raised the possibility of a telephone conversation with Trump, noting the need to talk to US officials on the issue. He said Russia had always believed in resolving the conflict peacefully.
Although Putin had agreed to the ceasefire proposal, the Kremlin believes that a temporary ceasefire would only give Ukraine some respite and would not have any long-term benefits.
