Sudanese army retakes several important sites, including banks

The army has regained control of several strategically important sites in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. On Saturday (March 22), they took control of several government buildings, including the Central Bank, the General Intelligence Headquarters and the Al-Fatih Tower on the banks of the Nile River. A military source confirmed the information to Anadolu Agency. The source said that the General Intelligence Headquarters in the airport area south of Khartoum, the Al-Fatih Tower on Nile Street and the Central Bank in the Al-Makran area were back under the control of the army. In addition, the army has seized the northern entrance to the Tuti Bridge, which connects Tuti Island and the Nile River between Khartoum.

Army units released a video of their positions at the Al-Fatih Tower, the Central Bank and the northern entrance to the Tuti Bridge. This is being considered a major military advance in the capital.

It is worth noting that the Sudanese army recaptured the presidential palace for the first time in almost two years last Friday. They lost this important position after being embroiled in a conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In recent weeks, RSF control has eroded and the army has gained control of several states, including Khartoum, Al-Jazeera, White Nile, North Kordofan, Sener, and Blue Nile.

The war, which began in April 2023, has killed thousands and displaced millions. The United Nations and local authorities have put the death toll at more than 20,000, although a study by a US university has put the death toll at around 130,000.

The international community and the United Nations have called for an end to the fighting, warning that food shortages are putting millions of Sudanese people at risk of starvation and death.
