The chief advisor’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam told BSS in Bangkok on Thursday, quoting Professor Yunus. Regarding the US’s imposition of 37 percent tariff on Bangladeshi imports, Shafiqul Alam said, “The entire issue is still in the initial stage of discussion. We are reviewing it and are hopeful that the steps we are taking will further strengthen our relations with the US in the coming days. We will be able to move towards a solution that will be a win-win situation for both sides.’
Expressing optimism, the press secretary of the chief advisor said, ‘We will do something that will protect the interests of both the United States and Bangladesh.’ He said that Bangladesh is continuing to communicate with the United States to this end.
Earlier this morning, Shafiqul Alam wrote on his verified Facebook page regarding the increase in US tariffs on Bangladeshi products, saying that Bangladesh is reviewing the tariffs imposed on products imported from the United States. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is working quickly and effectively to find ways to make these tariffs more reasonable, which is necessary to resolve the tariff complications.
The press secretary also said, ‘The United States is a close friend of Bangladesh and our largest export destination. Since the Trump administration took office, we have been working together to increase trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
