Desk Report :A few days ago, Bangladesh became the runner-up in the Under-19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup under the leadership of Sumaiya Akhtar. The BCB announced the 15-member T20 World Cup squad today, keeping Sumaiya as the captain.
Maharun Nesa and Arvin Tani have been dropped from the Asia Cup team. Sadia Islam and Lucky Khatun have replaced them in the World Cup team.
Like the 2024 Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup, the 2025 World Cup will also be held in Malaysia. The 16-team tournament starts on January 18 next year, with the final on February 2. Bangladesh are in Group ‘D’. There, Sumaiya’s team will face Australia, Scotland and Nepal.
A total of 12 teams, the top three from each group, will advance to the Super Six. In the Super Six, the six teams will be divided into two groups. The top two teams from each of these two groups will advance to the semi-finals.
Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign begins on January 18 with a match against Nepal. The next two matches are against Australia and Scotland on January 20 and 22. All matches will be played at the UKM-YSD Cricket Oval in Bangi.
The inaugural edition of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup was held in South Africa last year. India defeated England in the final to become the champions.
