Traffic pressure has increased on two highways in Gazipur, slowing down in some places
The holy Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in just a few days. In the meantime, the Eid pilgrimage has begun. The pressure of people and vehicles heading home has increased on the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways. Since Wednesday morning, passengers have been seen crowding important bus stands on these two highways. There is slow traffic at some points.
It was seen on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway that additional traffic police have been deployed at important points on the highway including Chandana Chowrasta, Bhogra Bypass Intersection, Board Bazar, Station Road. As the number of vehicles is less compared to the number of passengers, many have to wait for a long time. Those who had their leave earlier have started running towards their village homes since Tuesday night. The same situation was seen from this morning to afternoon. As the day progressed, the number of people and vehicles heading home on the highway also increased. This has seen a pressure of vehicles in and around the Chandana intersection in Gazipur on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Mofazzal Hossain works in a government organization. We spoke to him in the Bhogra area of the city. Mofazzal said that the construction work of the BRT in the Chandana intersection area is not yet completed. Goods have been left here and there. Due to this, the movement of vehicles is being hampered. In addition, where the flyover on the Mymensingh-bound road has come down, there is often traffic jam due to illegal parking and passengers getting on and off.
Khairul Islam, an assistant to a bus driver of VIP International Paribahan, said that the bus has to stop to come over the flyover and drop off passengers. There is no bus stand, so people stand wherever they want to pick up and drop off passengers. This is causing some traffic jams.
On the other hand, there was a huge pressure of vehicles since morning due to passengers picking up and dropping off at Chandra Trimor in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. However, although there was not much pressure of vehicles from Chandra to Kaliakoir, queues of vehicles have been seen on the Kaliakoir-Nabinagar road since afternoon. Highway Police says that this situation was created due to passenger buses stopping at Chandra Trimor at will to pick up and drop off passengers. Due to this, the vehicles behind are not able to move at normal speed. Sources from transport owners and industries have informed that Eid holidays have already ended in a few factories. Industrial factories will be closed in phases from tomorrow, Thursday. Then some factories will have Eid holidays on Friday and the remaining factories will have Eid holidays on Saturday. Basically, the pressure of passengers on the two highways will increase several times from tomorrow. Most factories are closed at the same time. Then thousands Traffic pressure has increased of home-bound people will come down to the highway. At that time, transport-related and administration officials are afraid of a shortage of vehicles and traffic jams in addition to the pressure of passengers on the road.
A man named Omar Faruk was going to his village home in Chauhali, Sirajganj. He said, “I work in marketing for a food company. I have left for my village home with my family. There is no problem on the highway today. I hope I will be able to go home comfortably.” Rina Khatun of Sathia, Pabna, said, “My husband’s holiday is from Friday. There will be traffic jams then. That is why I am going Traffic pressure has increased home with my children today.” Hakim Mia, a garment factory worker in Chandra area of Kaliakair upazila, said, “The factory holiday will be in another day. Then there will be a lot of crowd in the bus. So I am sending my wife and two children to my village home. Right now, there is a lot of trouble getting a bus. The fare is also being charged more than before.”
