Trump’s announcement comes in the wake of the ongoing boycott of Musk and Tesla by the ‘far left’. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, ‘Elon Musk is risking everything to help our nation and he is doing a great job!’ He also said that ‘the left is trying to illegally boycott Tesla and Elon, one of the largest automakers in the world.’
Trump announced the purchase of a new Tesla on Wednesday morning to show his support for ‘a truly great American’ Elon Musk. He questioned, ‘Why should he be punished for using his extraordinary skills to help make America great again???’

Notably, Trump has had a close relationship with Musk since taking office as president. He appointed Musk as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). But DOGE’s efforts to reduce costs have been met with protests, court rulings and pressure from lawmakers.
Tesla investors are concerned about Musk’s political involvement and closeness to Trump. Some Tesla customers are angered by Musk’s support for Trump and far-right groups in Europe. Tesla’s share price fell more than 15 percent on Monday, reflecting the volatility in US financial markets.
Meanwhile, Musk said his social media platform X had been the victim of a cyberattack.
