Trump to start crab business, DNCC grants license

Trump to start crab business

Donald Trump has obtained an e-trade license from Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to do crab business.

The license was issued on the afternoon of March 11. According to the license, the name of the business is ‘Trump Association’. The name of the owner of the business is Donald Trump. His father’s name is Fred Trump. His mother’s name is Mary Ann McLeod Trump. The names of the parents of the current US President Donald Trump are also the same. What is even more surprising is that the license has a smiling picture of US President Donald Trump as the owner.

The license gives the owner’s personal information and address as New York City, USA. However, the address of the business is in Aftabnagar, Dhaka.

Although it is surprising, the incident is true! The DNCC’s revenue department has issued such a fake trade license in the name of US President Donald Trump. The responsible officials of the organization have confirmed the issuance of such a trade license.

The applicant received the license after paying all the prescribed fees (totaling 2,265 taka) in favor of DNCC. The license expires on June 30, 2025. According to the rules, he can use this license as needed during the validity period.

DNCC officials said that the applicant has attached two documents with the license application. One is an office rental agreement, the other is a visa to Bangladesh for a Chinese citizen.

The license was issued from the Satarkul area of DNCC Zone-10. Nature of business: Other-single. Type of business: Crab fish seller.

Address of the business: House No. 40/42, Road No. 4, Block F, Sector No. 2, Aftabnagar, Badda under DNCC.

When I went to Aftabnagar last Tuesday afternoon, I saw that the road leading into Block F had passed by the Regional Passport Office (Dhaka East). A little further along the road, there was Road No. 4. At the very end of the road, there was house No. 40/42 mentioned in the trade license. The 10-storey building is new.

Mohammad Nahid, who introduced himself as the caretaker of the house, was sitting downstairs. When he showed him the trade license, he smiled. He said, “Fake.”

Mohammad Nahid told Prothom Alo that there is no office of any commercial organization in this house. It is a residential building. Bank officials and their families live on different floors of the building.

The current and permanent address of the license owner is the same. 55 (West) of 125th Street in New York City, USA.

An office rental agreement has also been attached to the trade license application. Accordingly, house number 106/19 in the Manipuripara area of Tejgaon in the capital has been rented. The type of business in this agreement is written as contracting. The monthly rent is 8 thousand taka. The contract is valid until January 1 of next year. A document of a Chinese citizen’s Bangladesh visa has been attached to the license application. His name is Kangzhuang Ding. His visa is valid until May 22.

Prothom Alo spoke to five officials of the DNCC Revenue Department regarding the e-trade license issued in Trump’s name. The officials’ statements are almost the same. They said that a recent meeting of the Revenue Department chaired by the DNCC Administrator discussed making the trade license service faster and easier. The meeting decided that if the applicant applies for a license, attaches the necessary documents and deposits the money, the e-trade license will be issued automatically (automated). The applicant himself can print the license and use it. Since this opportunity was created, many fake licenses or licenses are being issued using fake documents like the e-trade license issued in Trump’s name.

The officials also said that in the previous system, when an application was received, the responsible license and advertising supervisors would first go to the field and verify it. If everything was correct, the applicant would be given a license. But since the information verification process has been automated, many are getting licenses using fake documents. Before getting a license, necessary permissions or clearances from various organizations or departments were required. But now e-trade licenses are being issued without them. As a result, such inconsistencies are found in many e-trade licenses issued automatically.

DNCC Chief Revenue Officer Md. Moniruzzaman has admitted that e-trade licenses have been issued without fake and necessary documents since the automatic licensing was introduced. He commented that the e-trade license issued in Trump’s name is an example of that incident. However, he claimed that DNCC employees have shown that e-trade licenses can be issued in Donald Trump’s name automatically.

Moniruzzaman told Prothom Alo, “Our staff (employees) did that (e-trade license in Trump’s name) for trial (testing). They have shown through trial that trade licenses are being issued in Donald Trump’s name automatically. It is also being issued in Elon Musk’s name.” This has been done to demonstrate that fake e-trade licenses can be issued automatically.

Opportunity to create licenses on fake papers

DNCC officials say that there is no opportunity to verify the documents required to obtain a trade license according to the type of business. Due to this, many are obtaining e-trade licenses using fake documents from various departments and organizations or without the necessary documents. Many are again obtaining e-trade licenses at residential addresses, which were closed for a long time.
