Garment workers protested in Gazipur and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway demanding an extension of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday by two days. Later, the police went to control the situation and traffic flow returned to normal after about an hour and a half. This Thursday morning, workers of the Utah factory blocked the highway.

It was learned from talking to the police, workers and eyewitnesses that this time a 10-day holiday was announced for the garment factory on Eid-ul-Fitr. But the workers of the Utah factory in the Hotapara area of ​​​​Gazipur Sadar Upazila did not accept it. The workers demanded a 12-day holiday instead of a 10-day holiday on Eid. The factory authorities did not accept this demand of the workers.

This caused anger and tension among the workers. At one stage, the workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Hotapara area around 8:30 am. Upon receiving the information, the police went to the spot and removed the workers from the highway. Later, traffic flow returned to normal from 10 am. The workers attacked the factory and vandalized various furniture.

Joydebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Halim said that the Eid holiday has been declared for 10 days across the country. But the workers of the Utah factory did not accept it and demanded a 12-day holiday. The workers took to the streets regarding this.
